A Writer
At Heart

Writing has been my favorite thing to do from when I first learned how a pencil made a mark to now. However, until my extracurriculars, I never thought I could genuinely pursue it as a career option. Ravenwood - and the outside world - has proven to me that my pencil is a powerful tool.

Yearbook Copy Editor
During my senior year, I worked on the RHS Yearbook staff as the copy editor - I edit and write personal stories. I've gotten to interview students about their unqiue accomplishments, and learned how brilliant my peers really are.

Being on Yearbook staff has played a critical role in my decision to pursue writing in my future. I want to continue to tell people's stories;
it makes me realize what beauty and strength there is in the world. It gives me a reason to keep living.

Piece of the Week Writer
I've written for POW (Piece of the Week) from 10th grade to now, and my pieces have focused on the social relationships that are strengthened or represented by music. Getting to act as a journalist - reporting on Miss Saigon's harmful representation of the Vietnamese or discussing musical nationality - has taught me how happy a career in writing would make me, and how many important topics there are to discuss through writing. As the first recipient of the "POW Writer of the Month" award, I feel that I can genuinely make a change with my writing.

A Summer's Day
In my junior year, I started a blog for young writers, publishing new prompts every week and creating a forum for discussion and support. Budding talent is a beautiful thing; and just like a flower, it must be nurtured. I posted articles on college essay tips, exploring new forms of writing, different interpretations of prompts, and more.

My love for writing truly blossomed here. Reading all the stories people would submit and how much work each one took created such a love for the craft of writing. I only hope I get the chance to continue creating pieces of writing as well.

National English Honor Society
During my senior year, I've worked as the secretary of NEHS, and helped to coordinate writing events for Ravenwood's student body. Observing the president and her hard work for NEHS has shown me how meaningful English can be.

I hope that I can continue to spread that love for English by communicating stories from around the world. Additionally, if I worked as a lawyer, I'd hope to work for underserved communities, where many people cannot speak fluent English. This honor society has shown me that we can all do so much to spread English literacy.
